The stud will be run on similar lines (with help from John and Julie where required) producing Stud and flock rams for sale and show. Today
We as part of a group of Suffolk breeders are providing pure prime Suffolk lamb to Vince Garreffa “Mondo Meats” who in turn is supplying a number of Perth’s top restaurants and butcher shops with quality prime Suffolk lamb. This product is being extremely well received by both restaurants and butchers
Lambplan participants since 1997 we are continually striving for genetic gain. In earlier years we concentrated on increasing our growth rate to cater for our own purpose of sending prime lamb to market straight off their mother’s .As with the change of market priorities and more emphasis on lean meat yield we are now endeavouring to put more muscle into our Suffolk’s whilst still maintaining good growth rates.
Our interest in the breed has continued to grow over the years to where we now show and sell stud rams and ewes plus flock rams will be offered for sale at the Kojonup Multi Breed Triple S Ram sale in October with private sales to follow.
So why choose Suffolks?
We first entered the prime lamb market in the early 1970’s. After trying several other breeds we settled on the Suffolk. These were chosen for:
Shows
Our first foray in to the show ring was at the Northam Spring Show and Sale in 1998 where we were fortunate enough to win a couple of ribbons and sell our first Stud ram. Since then we have continued to show at Northam and other shows including the Perth Royal, Wagin Woolorama, the Williams Expo, Albany Agriculture show and our local show at Kojonup. In 2007 Karinya Suffolks have had pleasing show results with the stud achieving Champion Suffolk Ram and Champion interbreed group at the Wagin Woolorama and Champion ram, Supreme interbreed Ewe and Supreme interbreed group at the Williams Expo. At the recent Northam show we also achieved Champion Ewe and Reserve Champion Ram.
